CaribVic Steel Band

The CaribVic Steelband is made up of 25 steel drums played by drummers.

The Steelband was formed in Melbourne in January 2014. The majority of its members had never played an instrument prior to joining the band.

In October 2015, they competed in their first competition, the Australian Steelband Panorama Competition in Brisbane. They  achieved a fantastic result - 4th place!

To date, the CaribVic Steelband have performed at several events -

  • Represented the West Indies at the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup Opening Ceremony at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne.
  • Annual CaribVic Cultural Day at Yarra Bend Park
  • Concert for patrons of the Illawong Village in Patterson Lakes.
  • Accompaniment for the Boite Millennium Chorus in Windrush at The Hamer Hall in 2016
  • PANZfest (Pans Australia and New Zealand) in Brisbane 2015 and Cairns 2017
  • Jamaican Music & Food Festival 2017.
  • Darebin Music Feast 2017 at Northcote Social Club 
  • Queen Victoria Summer Night Market 2017/2018
  • Healesville Market
  • Fairfield and Thornbury Street Festivals
  • Private Functions

What's Next?

The CaribVic Steelband will join Pans on Fire to represent Victoria in Auckland at the First Aotearoa New Zealand Steelband Festival from 23-25 February 2018.

From 12:00-12:45pm on Saturday 10th March 2018, the CaribVic Steelband will perform in the Alexander Gardens on the Moomba Festival stage.

The Steelband is available to perform at events big and small and welcomes new players to join the band.

The band practices twice a week, Tuesdays  7:00-9:00pm and Saturdays 3:00-6:00pm, in Northcote, Victoria. Beginners are always welcome! Come and try for FREE! It’s as easy as ABC/123!
